Kayak Courses and Clinics

Kayak Courses

Spend a few nights on the campground and get your basic sea kayak skills with a Paddle Canada certified instructor.

Basic Sea Kayak Skills (8 hours)

Le Camping offers the Basic Sea Kayak Skills Paddle Canada course.  The course is the primary starting point of the Paddle Canada Sea Kayak Skills progression with a focus on foundation skills, knowledge and developing the participant’s awareness of their personal roadmap to future learning.

On completion of the course, you will be able to confidently paddle in class-0 or calm, sheltered waters in the company of peers with similar abilities.  The course elements are:

  • Re-entry Skills (Wet Exit, Assisted Re-entries)
  • Paddling Skills (Lifting and Carrying, Launching and Landing, Forward Stroke, Reverse Stroke, …)
  • Sea Kayaking Knowledge (Kayak Part Names and Outfitting, Paddling and Safety Equipment, Injury prevention, …)

Assessment will be through practical exercises and the successful participant will obtain the Paddle Canada Basic Kayak Skills certification.

At Le Camping, the Basic Sea Kayak Skills course is 8 hours of instructions spread over 2 consecutive mornings with a minimum of 6 hours on the water.  You can bring your own kayak (spray skirt and a least one sealed compartment) or rent a Kayak on site.  Since almost 25% of the course is spent on controlled exit of your kayak during a capsize and assisted re-entry (with a buddy) to get back in your kayak, a wetsuit is highly recommended.

A minimum of 4 participants is required to give the course with a maximum of 6.  We will also be happy to schedule a course for your team or group at an appropriate time.
